Vengence Gambit was AWESOME

got back from Vengence Gambit last night, it was just awesome, lots of folks showed up, it was a real whose who of CBT in the Pacific Northwest. Loren didn't show up but Randell did, which was certinly cool. we had 25 people show up to VG, so needless to say the game ran kinda slow and we didn't get finished. but it was fun, I managed to kill a Huron Warrior.

great game over all. I'm hoping to head out there for next years big event too

Vengence Gambit here I come

well it's saturday april 8th. and I'm just sitting down for about an hour before I head off to Washington state with my friend Ryan to attend Vengence Gambit, the battle for New Avalon, I hope, the border guard might just detain us when we tell em we're coming to fight in the Jihad :). (seriously mind you which is why I don't intend to say anything other then "battletech event" when asked my reason for visiting at the boarder)

me and Ryan are going to take the ferry over today and crash at William's  place (SMW for those who post on CBT.com)  and then head home sunday. I'm looking forward to soundly delivering a defeat to the word of blake.

Birthday!

well my birthday was monday, pretty dull all things considered, I was broke, and my folks had just gotten home from a two week vacation so things where kinda slow, still we had pizza for dinner and ice cream cake for dessert so tis all cool. later that evening I got a phonecall from my grandpa Mike In Alberta, a suprise. I'd not heard from him in years (he and my grandma divorced when my mom was quite young and he's sortta lost contact with his kids)  apparently he's been trying to reconnect a lot, which is cool, he says he'll send me something for my birthday, but honestly just hearing from him was proably the nicest part.

time for a "new feature"  Brian's guide to effective RPing. I play a decent number of RPGs. doing mostly d&d, but also star wars, d20 modern, cbt rpg. and am always open to new systems.

anyway today's discussion, how to proerly play an intresting character. I've seen a number of people who seem to think the only way to play an intresting character is to have a bizzare race etc. I'm sure those of you who have played d&d have encountered it "I'm a good half-red dragon raised by my good red dragon parent" yet the thing is these characters are invariably not terriably intresting, in most games I've Played, and often get outshone by "the human fighter"

thing is often these characters with bizzare races tend to be too fixated on their character and the fact is once you get beyond their race, and the exceptions to why this race is with the group, you don't often have much sustinence. in effect 90% of the time these characters are shallow.

nowe I'm not saying don't include something in your background that makes you differnt from the norm but when you over do it, it can end up making your char LESS effective and less intresting.

especially when said char is a cliche like "I'm a goblin who has rejected the evil ways of my kin and fled, now I am serving along side humans and trying to prove my self to a disstrusting people"
